Lee Seung Gi has confirmed his role as the Monkey King, or Son Oh Gong in Korean, in tvN's upcoming Sat-Sun drama 'Hwayugi. The modern, tvN remake of the famous 'Journey to the West' story from China will tell the story of Son Oh Gong's adventures in the human world with the Bull Demon King, played by Cha Seung Won, and the monk, played by Oh Yeon Seo.
According to tvN staff, the scriptwriters only thought of Lee Seung Gi when preparing for the character of Son Oh Gong, and sought after him passionately in order to convince the singer/actor to take on 'Hwayugi' as his first production after his military discharge. 'Ywayugi', also starring F.T. Island's Hongki, Bora, and more, is set to premiere on December 23 at 9PM KST!
